Yellow moong dal ladoo recipe: An easy, fuss-free, melt-in-mouth sweet made with only three ingredients.
Ladoos or mithais are very common in India. No festival or occasion is complete without them. In fact, every Indian region has its own variety.
One thing that makes ladoos so popular is their long shelf life. They are made in such a way that, they can be stored for a long time without being spoilt. In the old days, people even carried these for long-distance journeys.
I made this recipe a few days back for the first time. But could not take the snaps. Hence this is my second attempt. And this time I made 14 ladoos and they are finished just in no time. The taste is very similar to besan ladoo. If you love besan ladoo. Then you will surely love this.
Ingredients
- Base - Yellow moong dal or Split skinned moong lentils
- Sweetener - Sugar
- Fat - Ghee(clarified butter)
- Flavor - Cardamom powder
How to make Moong Dal Ladoo
Yellow moong lentils, sugar, and ghee are the three basic ingredients required for this recipe. Other than that I have added green cardamom for flavor.
It is such a fuss-free recipe, you just need to roast the dal, followed by grind the dal and sugar to a smooth powder. Then finally, add melted ghee and mix everything together to make ladoos. That's it.
Tips
- Before making the ladoos I have washed the lentils well and dry them in sunlight. Some folks directly roast the lentils. However, I would suggest to wash them well and dry completely before roasting.
- While roasting it is important to roast them well over low to medium flame for 10-15 minutes or until the dal turns slightly golden and aromatic. This is the most important step in this recipe.
- Adjust the sweetness as per requirement. Alternatively, you can use the same amount of jaggery powder instead of sugar for a healthier option.
- You can even add some crushed nuts in this or decorate with silver leaves if you like.
- Since keeping in the refrigerator make these slightly harder. You can easily store these ladoos for a few days at normal room temperature. Just make sure to keep these in an airtight container.
Serving Suggestions
These ladoos are perfect for festivals like Rakshya Bandhan, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Diwali. Serve these as an offering to deities or made these just for your family and friends and enjoy when it feels like.

Great recipe to explore Indian cuisine even more. I love that you only need three ingredients for this - simple and easy, what else do you need, right? 🙂
