Quick boiled potato chaat: A step by step guide for making quick aloo chaat prepared with boiled potato and a melange of spices.
The recipe takes less than 10 minutes to make if boiled potatoes are in hand. It's tangy, flavorful with a kick of heat. An oil-free snack that can be enjoyed by everyone without compromising the health.

How to make Boiled Aloo Chaat
Making the Spice Mix Powder
- Heat a pan and dry roast cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black pepper, and dried red chili(non-spicy) for a minute or until you get a nice aroma. (Photo-1,2)
- Once done transfer the spices to a plate to stop the roasting process. Let them slightly cool down. (Photo-3)
- Then grind or crush them to make a powder and set aside. (Photo-4)
Making Tamarind Water
- Mash and squeeze the tamarind and water to make a thick liquid. Then strain the juice and set aside. (Photo-5,6)
Making Aloo Chaat
- Slice the potatoes in a bowl. (Photo-7,8)
- Add tamarind water, spice mix powder, black salt, chopped coriander, and green chili. (Photo-9 to 15)
- Gently mix without breaking the potato slices. If required, sprinkle a tablespoon water but not more. Then check the seasoning and serve.
Tips
- The potatoes should not be over boiled or they will easily break apart and become mushy.
- The tamarind water should not be thin.
- Adjust the heat as per your tolerance.
- The quantities of tamarind water and spice can be increased or reduced as per the taste buds.
- All the ingredients can be prepared in advance and assemble the chaat just before serving.
- It can be consumed on vrat or upvaas as well.

- 1 small ball of tamarind pulp
- 3 tablespoon water
For Potato Chat
- 3 boiled and peeled potatoes medium sized
- Black salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon spice mix powder
- 2 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
- ½ teaspoon chopped green chili
