Pulses names in English and ifferent indian Languages List

Pulses are the dried seeds of a legume pod, that include lentils, beans, and peas. Pulses come in various colors, shapes, and sizes and are full of protein and fiber. They are used in many varieties of recipes around the world and Indian cuisine is no exception. Lentils, peas and beans are an indigenous part of everyday Indian meal.

In India pulses are available in three varieties:

  1. whole with the skin intact
  2. split half with the skin
  3. split half without the skin, popularly called 'dal' or 'daal'

List of Pulses

Below is the handy list of commonly used Indian pulses names in English, Hindi, and different regional languages wherever possible. This is an ongoing list of names in table format. I will update the list time to time. I have listed the names alphabetically to make it easier to find and read.
