What is Kathi Roll

Kathi roll was originated from NIZAM restaurant, Kolkata. Originally these were made of the skewer or stick roasted meat kababs wrapped in parathas. The word 'kathi' means 'stick' in Bengali and the name refers to the way it is made. Kathi roll is simply called 'roll' in the state.

Over the years kathi roll has become a popular fast food found in Indian take-out restaurants and also in the street-side stalls. Many variants have evolved today. Healthier versions use whole wheat flour chapatis/roti as wraps while fillings come in many varieties - potatoes, mixed vegetables, chickpeas, paneer, and so on.

About this recipe

This is the simple and easy kathi roll recipe. I often make this in my dinner.

Generally, the wrap of a Kathi roll is made with flaky paratha made from all-purpose flour(maida). While I have used a combination of both all-purpose flour and whole wheat flour to make the dough.

Furthermore, for stuffing, I have used onion and capsicum. You could use veggies like Red and yellow peppers, broccoli, corn, and mushrooms. In addition, I have used mayonnaise and tomato ketchup. You could slightly alter the recipe to suit your tastebud.

This veggie egg roll is a wholesome meal in itself. Serve it as a snack, breakfast, weekday meal, or pack it in the lunchbox.
