My version of this simple banana milkshake is made from all-natural ingredients without the addition of sugar, dairy, and ice cream.
When I shop for groceries, I always buy a bunch of ripe bananas to whip up various recipes. But this is one of the easiest to make, and it tastes incredible.
Although banana milkshakes are a tasty drink, they can also be an ideal breakfast, snack, or dessert. The creaminess and fruity taste will leave you feeling refreshed and satisfied - especially during the hot summer weather.

Well Ripened Bananas are the Best
It is essential to choose well-ripened bananas to make milkshakes. They have black spots on the skin, similar to the photo below. Most bananas that we buy from the market aren't fully ripe.
To speed up the ripening process, you can put them in a closed container, and they'll become ready in one or two days.
Frozen Or Fresh Banana
I suggest using frozen bananas to make this quick banana milkshake recipe. Since frozen bananas give the right texture without thinning down the shake. However, if you want to use fresh bananas, you can add some ice cubes into the blender to make your milkshake frothy.
Freezing Bananas
Peel the bananas and cut each banana into 4-5 chunks. Place them on a plate and put the plate in the freezer. Allow them to freeze until firm. Transfer frozen banana chunks to a freezer bag and keep frozen until ready to use.
Ingredients Needed
Here are a few important notes about the ingredients. For measurements see the recipe card below.
- Bananas: I used two large bananas, peeled, sliced, and frozen.
- Coconut milk: I have used fresh homemade coconut milk here. You can use unsweetened coconut milk either from a can or a carton. You can also use dairy milk or other plant-based milk like almond, cashew, soy, or oat.
- Dates: they naturally sweetened the shake without adding refined sugar.
- Ground cinnamon: it lends a subtle warm taste and a slight kick.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Add frozen banana slices, coconut milk, dates, and ground cinnamon to a blender.
- Blend them until smooth and creamy.
- Pour the milkshake into serving glasses. Enjoy!
Note
Depending on the size of the bananas you use, this recipe makes about a big size glass shake or two smaller glasses.
