A quick and easy lemon tea recipe to refresh and rejuvenate your morning!

Lemon Tea

I adore lemon tea. The fresh homemade lemon tea is so easy to make, you just need 4 ingredients and within 6 minutes a delicious beverage is ready.

What is Lemon Tea

Lemon tea is a concoction of freshly brewed tea and lemon juice. An age-old recipe. It is often called ‘Lemon chai’ or ‘Nimbu chai’ in India. You can drink it either hot or iced. It is one of the best alternatives to regular tea. Starting your day with this lemon tea will keep you refreshed and energized for long.

Benefits Of This Tea

  • Helps to burn fat.
  • Cleanses the liver and kidneys
  • Removes toxins from the body.
  • Help fight free radicals.
  • Soothes a sore throat.

Drinking lemon tea in moderation gives all benefits. However, people on special medication or having specific health issues must take medical advice before drinking this tea regularly.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Water
  • Tea leaves
  • Lemon juice
  • Honey or sugar

While you can use ground tea, tea bags, or green tea instead of tea leaves. You can even sweeten your cuppa with jaggery, agave, or unsweetened tea tastes as good.

Preparations (Step by step)

  1. Heat water in a pot on a medium flame for about 3 minutes or until the water comes to a rolling boil.
  2. Immediately turn off the flame and add tea leaves. Cover the lid and let the tea leaves steep in the water for 2 minutes.
  3. Strain the black tea, stir in lemon juice, and honey. Your sweet lemon tea is ready to serve. Enjoy piping hot!
Lemon Tea Recipe Steps

This is the basic method of the lemon tea recipe. To make this tea even more exciting here are a few things you can add. I would recommend trying each one of them separately to find out the right combination for yourself.

  • You can add some grated ginger before pouring the tea in the cup. For a more intense flavor, add grated ginger while boiling the water.
  • Add a pinch of Jaljeera or black salt for a change of taste.
  • Use some fresh mint leaves for a more refreshing taste.
  • For an earthy flavor, add some fresh basil leaves.
  • Spices like cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and star anise could be added. You could use whole or a pinch of ground spice while serving.
  • Use black pepper powder for a spicy undertone.

For Iced Lemon Tea

Allow the lemon tea to cool down. Then chill it and serve by adding ice cubes and lemon slices. You could add some soda water (also called sparkling water, seltzer water, or fizzy water) for sparkling lemon iced tea.

Tips

Lemon tea is the simplest tea to make. To make a perfect cup of tea each time here are a few tips.

  • Always go for good quality tea.
  • Loose tea or green tea tastes best.
  • Add the tea leaves only after the water comes to a rolling boil and let it steep for no longer than 2 minutes so the bitterness does not develop too strongly.
  • Add more tea leaves to make a strong tea.
  • Use fresh lemon juice
  • Skip honey if you love black tea without a sweetener.
